Weatherford TX Real Estate: Three Taxing Units, One Tax Bill. What Each Did for 2026
If you own a home in Weatherford or you're about to buy one, "the tax rate" isn't one number. Your bill is built from several taxing units, and three of the big ones made decisions this late summer: the city, Weatherford College, and the school district. Here's what each one has done and what it means for your bill.
What did each taxing unit do?
Weatherford College. The college's board approved a $117 million budget and a property tax rate of 11.4716 cents per $100 on Aug. 27, 2026. That's up from 10.6087 cents last year. The college said the rate is about 28.5 percent below the state average and the 19th lowest among the state's 50 community college districts.
Weatherford ISD. The school board approved a $121 million budget for 2026-27 on Aug. 24, according to the Weatherford Democrat. The article reports a proposed tax rate of 93.42 cents per $100, about a dime lower than the 2025-26 rate. The board moved its decision on the tax rate to Sept. 14. I haven't confirmed what the board finally adopted, so check with the district.
City of Weatherford. A summary of the Sept. 22 City Council meeting reports that the council held a public hearing on the proposed 2026 property tax rate, received no public comments, then adopted the budget for Oct. 1, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2027 and the tax rate ordinance. I couldn't confirm the adopted rate from the city's site, so check the council's agenda packet for the exact number.
What does it mean for Weatherford homeowners and buyers?
A little math, using the college rate. Property tax equals taxable value divided by 100, times the rate. On a taxable value of $300,000:
| Taxing unit | Last year | 2026 | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weatherford College (10.6087 to 11.4716 cents) | $318.26 | $344.15 | +$25.89 |
For the school district, a dime less per $100 works out to roughly $100 less per $100,000 of taxable value, if the proposed rate was adopted as described. But school taxable value is not the same as your market value, because exemptions apply to the school portion differently from the others.
Three different boards, three different calendars, and each one moves in its own direction. That's why the total rate for your address matters more than any single line.
If you're buying, ask your lender and title company for the full tax breakdown on that specific address. If you're selling, make sure your exemptions are in order and have a recent tax statement handy.
My take: what I'd do right now
- Get the total rate for your address. Parker County Appraisal District can show which taxing units apply.
- Confirm each adopted rate. The college's rate is public. For the city and the school district, check their sites or call.
- Check your exemptions. A homestead exemption is something you apply for, and it can change your bill.
- Plan for the statement. Bills typically go out in the fall and are due by the end of January.
For tax questions, your CPA is the right call. For financing, your lender.

City, county, school district, and college district each set their own rate for their own services. Your property is in each unit's boundaries, so you pay each one's share.
